Starting July 2025, the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) is starting an evaluation of several key programs and related initiatives under the AHO’s Strong Family, Strong Communities Strategy.
The evaluation will capture achievements, contributions, and lessons learned. It will involve consultations with sector partners, service providers, Aboriginal Community Housing Providers, clients and AHO staff.
Director of Policy and Evidence, Deslin Foster, said “Evaluating SFSC programs is important because it allows us the chance to learn and then innovate. With feedback from our partners and customers we can better understand what worked and where there are opportunities to improve.”
Manager of Sector Development at the AHO, Kelly Chatfield, said "We'll be asking the sector to get involved because we need their support to deliver AHO programs. They’ve helped AHO to deliver security and safety to our tenants. Now it's time to reflect on the wins, challenges, growth and opportunities.”
How we’re engaging stakeholders
The Aboriginal community housing sector will be asked to provide feedback in two phases:
In July, all AHO-funded housing and service providers will be invited to take part in a survey about their experiences with AHO.
In August and September, representatives from key groups will be invited to take part in one-on-one interviews and a sensemaking session to validate findings from Aboriginal perspectives. The key groups include ACHPs and other Aboriginal community controlled organisations, service providers, clients of ACHPs and other service providers.
Participation in either phase is voluntary and focused on sharing experiences and reflections.
How the information will be used
All information captured will be de-identified and combined to develop evaluation findings. The findings will be shared back with Aboriginal stakeholders and communities through an online report.
