NSW Aboriginal community housing sector reaches 50 registered Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs) under NRSCH and NSWLS

The NSW Aboriginal community housing sector has achieved a major milestone – with 50 Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs) now registered under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH) and New South Wales Local Scheme (NSWLS). This is the highest number of registered ACHPs nationally.

The milestone reflects the commitment shown by the ACHPs, the Aboriginal Community Housing Industry Association NSW (ACHIA NSW) and the sector, along with the NSW Registrar of Community Housing (RCH) and the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO), to improve outcomes for Aboriginal tenants, families and communities across NSW.

AHO Chief Executive Famey Williams said, “ACHPs continued effort to support the growth and strength of the Aboriginal community housing sector is a key goal within the AHO’s 10-year Strong Family, Strong Communities (SFSC) strategy. I want to personally congratulate each ACHP, the sector and the Registrar in achieving this incredible outcome and look forward to AHO supporting more organisations to realise their aspirations for registration.”

ACHIA NSW CEO Lisa Sampson stated, "By achieving registration, ACHPs have jumped all the same hurdles required of the mainstream community housing sector. ACHPs have demonstrated that they are not only willing, they are capable of meeting the housing needs of their communities. As Aboriginal community controlled organisations, they are in the best place to deliver for their communities. We celebrate this momentous milestone."

The AHO’s SFSC strategy has a focus area dedicated to building a sustainable, functioning and responsive sector that delivers culturally-appropriate housing solutions to Aboriginal people and communities across NSW.

Under the AHO Registration Policy 2018, the registration system for ACHPs is the NRSCH, or for Local Aboriginal Land Councils, the NSWLS. ACHP Registration is a prerequisite to manage AHO properties and for the provision of funding and assistance under the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998
