The Aboriginal Housing Office has been Highly Commended for ‘Leading Asset Management’ in the Australasian Housing Institute Awards for the Backlog maintenance program that was run by Twofold Aboriginal Corporation.

"This is a great outcome for AHO and Twofold as this project was a first for us. Not only did we get great outcomes for our tenants, but we are also empowering the local Aboriginal community by providing economic and employment opportunity. It is great to be recognised for this achievement and I want to thank Ken Weldon of our Sydney South East Region and of course Chris Bird of Twofold for their commitment to the project , " Simon Newport, Director Strategic Finance and Asset Management at the AHO.

The Australasian Housing Institute Awards provide an opportunity to showcase social housing success stories. The Awards formally recognise and reward excellence in professional practice, from the grass roots to the most senior levels.

Awards go to housing professionals who are judged to have made a significant and lasting difference: to tenants or service users, to their community, to their colleagues and to their profession.

The AHO’s initiative with Twofold Aboriginal Corporation, on the South Coast of NSW, has been a major achievement for all involved, with the successful completion of a maintenance backlog at nine homes in the local Aboriginal community.

The project not only demonstrated new and innovative approaches but was also a great employment opportunity for the local Aboriginal community.

Successful outcomes included tenant and community satisfaction and provided significant employment benefits to those involved in the contract work.

This project is the first of its kind in the housing sector.
